Funny acting kick down cable when cold. 200 1990

When I was having some problems with the kick down cable sticking about six months ago I loosened it up with BP Blaster, lubricated it liberally with some silicon spray and used the funnel technique to lubricate the cable sheathing. I did this procedure twice in a three month period and all was very nice and smooth, until it got cold.
(I have been using synthetic ATF for about 5 years)

When it initially got cold the pedal would just stick a little and would be normal after the car warmed up. But now that it’s as cold as you‘d ever want it to be it’s acting like it was before I worked it over. It doesn’t seem to want to even leave first gear. What causes this?
