Just stopped light, front row, center right lane of six, 9:00 AM, heard a pop, some plunking sounds saw white and smelled the sweet aroma of Zerex GO5. Not much steam so I kept the engine running checking the gauge a few times and looked around for a safe place to pull over. A strip shopping center off the road on the right, light still red, crossed in front of one car and no cars in the right turn lane while the light was red and into the shopping center, all within 20 seconds of the pop.
Spotted the leak and now I have to find the plug. I mentioned to my son who was with me, its probably in the road and started walking back to road. I said to hold off, lets look in the engine area and splash pan. Found it on the frame ledge, the one with the extra big holes on top, near the firewall close to the AC drain. Pure luck!
I remember reading about the plug popping and the fix or the prevention using wire but could not quite picture it at the time. It took me a NY minuet to figure it out, wire around the radiator side tank and the plug. A dollar or more store was open but no wire. What would Macgyver do? Ask if they had picture hanging kit. Yes, with two pieces of wire for less than buck fifty.
The MacGyver tool was used a file a wire keeper notch in the plug and hanging wire was wrapped. Easy enough so used the second wire. I must tell the truth, I really used a Gerber multi tool for the filing and kept the smaller Cross knife on my key chain.
I will replace the picture hanging wire will a wrap of a galvanized wire that would hold a little better.
Now you can picture it.
