idles/drives for about 30 seconds, then dead 900

Stranded in Manhattan in yumy 92 940 Regina. Will start just fine, drive fine for 30 seconds, then die. If I don't touch the gas it will idle very roughly, but stay alive. Afny throttle causes a stall. However, if I just let it idle for a bit, check engine light comes on & idle mellows out. Any suggestions? Thanks!
