Timing belt replace - vibration damper assembly won't come off 700

1990 740 Turbo Wagon

I did the rope trick and got the 24mm bolt off. It came off quite easily with a long handle torque wrench and about 4' of rope :)

Loosened the alternator adjuster and got that belt loose. Loosened the AC adjuster and that belt is still tight, there is something going on there but that isn't where I am stuck.

The vibration damper assembly won't move at all. Tried rocking it left right, long screwdriver behind it, it won't move. Any tricks for getting that off? I know it will go a bit easier when the AC belt is loose, but at the moment it is totally frozen in place.

By the way, the cam wasn't turning so I expected to see a broken timing belt. When I took the upper timing cover off, the belt was still there and intact. Turned the engine over, and the belt wasn't moving. What had happened is the teeth on the belt were worn off and not engaging the crank gear. That seems to be an odd failure mode considering the car was being driven when it quit. I wonder what else I will find.
