I have a no crank situation with a '91 240. On page 330-2 of the Bentley service manual is a starter system troubleshooting table. I followed the instructions listed and discovered that I have just under 12 volts at terminal 50 of the starter solenoid (yellow/blue wire) and less than 1 volt at the field-winding strap. The table indicates that less than 8 volts at the field-winding strap is sufficient evidence to conclude that the solenoid is faulty. I have the following questions. 1) Do you concur with Bentley that 12 volts at terminal 50 and almost nothing at the field-winding strap means the solenoid is faulty or is it possible something else is amiss? 2) Is replacing the starter straight forward enough that any competent shop can handle the job or is this a job for a Volvo specialist?
