Hi brickboard. I'm back. I have a 1992 745T with a speedometer intermitent failure. This failure only (so far) happens when I am driving in wet conditions with salt and that damm calcium chloride all over the road. When the speedometer fails, the ABS light comes on, I loose ABS function, and the cruise controll failes. I have read the 740 FAQ section and have traced the problem to the wiring coming out of the pickup on the rear differential. The wires just coming out of the sensor connector have lost their insulatiion, and both wires are frayed and have multibpe broken strands. I did a temporary fix by teasing the strands apart, putting on electrical tape and supporting with wire loom and zip ties. I am a bit confused about the FAQ instructions for repair. Do I need to replace the entire sensor, of can I get a new connector and reinsert the connector into the old sensor? The FAQ mentions volvo part #3523813, rear sensor connector replacement. I think that is what I need. Also, how do I get the connector out of the sensor? There is a tamper evicent wire seal sticking out of the side of the sensor. I can cut it off, but it looks like it goes through the sensor plug. Do I have to remove the sensor from the differential to remove the seal then remove the connector? I'm sure someone hase done this repair and can clear this up for me. While I'm messing around there, I think I will change the differential oil. I do not believe it has ever been done, and now has 312K miles on it. Thanks in advance.
