Friend purchased a non-running no-start. PO said "Wouldn't start one day. Son replaced a fuel regulator & a relay, and the timing belt; tested the fuel pump; still won't start."
1. Got it running: the fuel-pump fuse was corroded; plastic lines between fuel pump & filter and from the filter to engine were kinked - But it did run link this for us, just was hard to start.
2. With all of the above sorted, it was still hard to start: multiple tries, would stall; then it ran rough ....
Noticed the crank pulley wobbling. Turned out it wasn't seated in the groove. Pulled it and the covers and looks like the timing belt is off 2-3 teeth.
So: found all 3 marks and reinstalled the belt. But not sure I'm getting the intermediate shaft aligned correctly.
Procedure: aligned the grove in the crank washer with the mark on the housing; aligned the camshaft. Easy. But each time I look at the intermediate shaft pulley it seems to be off some. I've tried a mirror and looking straight on - car's on a lift - but can't seem to tell exactly..
I've done this before and it seemed easy. Am I missing something obvious? It might be that my timing is good and I'm just not seeing it.
