90-240 tranny problem update 200

The orginal problem was tranny not shifting into 4th, and tranny falling out of 4th.
Things already done:

1. flushed.
2. checked wiring and relay, all good.
3. pulled solenoid. Checked it was clear.(probed od outlet passage with small screwdriver for blockage. No blocks found.
Out of frustration I eliminated the Od(cut a passageway). Car is now in regular 4speed tranny mode. No Od.
5. Disconnected the kickdown cable and pushed it all the way back in.

Problem remains. Car shifts up to 3rd gear but does 4th erratically.
That is sometimes it will shift smoothly into 4th and run, normally, for a short distance, then drop back to third. Above, say 45-50, it goes crazy and shifts in and out of 4th.

I bit the bullet and ordered a bottle of auto-rx(arriving tomorrow), but my hopes aren't very high for that. I will add it when it arrives and will report the results.

The car can be driven as long as I stay off the interstate.

If anyone has other ideas about what this problem may be, and possible solutions, Iam ,totally, receptive.

Barring all else, the AW 72L in the wifes 740(250,000 and getting a bit ragity, been hit twice), may just find its way into the 240, with the 740 being layed to rest with honors, for services rendered.

The other idea was to leave the 740 be and find a good L block B230 attached to a good tranny(hopefully one with L on it) and drop it all into the 240. The 240 still being a good looking ,sound automobile(190...miles).

As always, thanks to all.
