Hello everyone,
I have been playing around with a 1985 740 Turbo w/ an M46 and I have been desperately searching for some sort of adjustment on the clutch. This car has a hydraulic clutch setup which I understand should be self-adjusting but the engagement is right at the floor despite the maintenance records indicating a new clutch being installed about 6 years ago. I got underneath the car and there appears to be no adjustment on the slave cylinder. On the pedal side I did notice some slop between the pedal motion and the actual engagement with the master cylinder. It appears that the rod connected to the master cylinder has a plastic end that engages with a metal pin on the pedal assembly and this plastic has worn away over the years. Has anyone had a similar problem? Any backyard fixes? Has anyone done any other adjustment with the hydraulic system? I was also going to bleed the system to see if that helps but I am not holding my breath.
A side question...were there any 740 manual cars that came with cable clutches as opposed to this hydraulic setup? If so, is a conversion possible? I imagine I would need a separate pedal assembly but I like the simplicity and feel of the cable setup.
Thanks!
Brian
