Bad AMM or not? 200 1983

I have a perplexing issue with one of my 2 identical '83 wagons. The one I most often drive suddenly developed a rough running problem (would barely run at all). When I disconnected the AMM, it would run okay, probably what some call the "limp home" mode.

What puzzles me is that when I pulled the AMM and put it in my other '83, it works fine. I tried this with another one of my spare AMMs, and got the same result. Any thoughts on what may be the cause of this? It makes me think my problem may be other than the AMM. Thanks! Jim
