Quick Q: how to assess spent wheel bearings 200

I'm grateful if anyone takes a moment to answer, this is not critical and I ask a lot of questions already:


I cleaned and repacked my R front wheel bearing today, filling the hub and all moving parts with fresh grease. The races on the hub looked and felt OK to me, no pitting or noticeable signs of wear. This being my first time playing with needle bearings, I had no idea what to look for in gauging their useability. From end to end (outside to inside, so to speak) they both had a little bit of play, however it is their design would have them jiggle SOME amount in this direction (the length of the bearings). I just don't know how much.

The inner bearings were SKF whereas the outer were Koyo. Makes me wonder if someone had done this job before and didn't do it right. The metal grease seal washer was not pounded into the inside edge of the hub when I took it apart (it was completely separate). I can't tell you the torque spec of the castle nut when I removed it (or even now, for that matter, because I don't have a socket big enough to fit it). Obviously I'm jonesing for an easy fix for both wheels.

So what am I looking for to determine whether or not they need replacing?
