Broken Door Handle 900 1994

I have a ’94 945 wagon that has had a door latch issue come up. One day something “snapped” or “unhinged” on the inside causing the mechanism in the lever in the handle to not latch on to anything. – I could be explaining this wrong, but that what it feels like. I now have to have someone open the door for me from the inside (imagine there being slight spring-tension in the handle, but not clicking or closing on to anything. Can this be fixed manually? Do I have to spend 200+ dollars at a mechanic to have this fixed? PLEASE HELP!!
