Hi everybody,
Our 940 wagon was totaled a couple weeks ago, and we wanted to replace it, but couldn't find another 940 we liked. We needed something quick, and I found a 1987 240 wagon in excellent mechanical condition, so we bought that over the weekend. It's the first 240 I've owned.
There are a couple cosmetic things I want to do to get the vehicle looking good again, and the first thing is the original headlights and turn signals. They're badly aged and yellowed, and I imagine new ones would go a long way to improving the look of this car. (I attached a pic so you can see the situation.)
It seems like I've read around here in the past about aftermarket light assemblies that were good or *not* good, and I was wondering what brands I should be looking for or avoiding. Specifically, I was wondering if the "Depo" brand is good or not. I found some on Amazon for what seems to me to be a decent price, but I don't know if that brand is a good one or not. Not sure how posting URLs works on this forum, but here are a couple URLs for the light assemblies on Amazon to see if this is even what I should be looking for:
http://www.amazon.com/Depo-Driver-Passenger-Replacement-Headlights/dp/B006RLHKKE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1332273576&sr=8-2
http://www.amazon.com/VOLVO-86-93-SIGNAL-LIGHT-PAIR/dp/B0073I54PS/ref=au_pf_pfg_s?ie=UTF8&Model=245%7C132&n=15684181&s=automotive&Make=Volvo%7C27&Year=1987%7C1987&vehicleType=5&carId=001
Or, is it possible that all I need is the lens? As in here:
http://www.amazon.com/Eagle-VV024-L000R-Volvo-Passenger-Signal/dp/B003T1BYD4/ref=au_pf_pfg_s?ie=UTF8&Model=245%7C132&n=15684181&s=automotive&Make=Volvo%7C27&Year=1987%7C1987&vehicleType=5&carId=001
Now, to be honest, I've never done much of my own maintenance: I've replaced a headlight bulb, but that's about it. I'd like to learn how to do a few things, and this seemed like a project that might be a simple enough way to start. We have an *excellent* small shop around the corner from us who specializes in older Volvo repair, but again, if this is something I can do myself and save a few bucks in the process, that would be cool.
I've read the forums here ever since we bought our old 940 a year ago, but this is my first question. Thanks in advance for the help!
