Working on a 91 240 B230f engine.
I have a continental timing belt and after finally getting the cam and int pulleys bolts out and having to dremel cut the tensioner nut off I am ready to re assemble.
I installed the three seals and I think the crank pulley may have moved a bit either direction off of #1 tdc.
Does anyone have a picture of how the double lines on the timing belt are supposed to look when its installed? When I install the belt with the cam pulley notch lining up with the notch in the plastic cover (about 11:55) and the int notch at 3:00 where should the keyway be on the crank pulley? Is it about 12:00 as well at #1 tdc? Do I need to install the lower cover and line up the keyway to the "0" mark? I ask because when I rotate the belt installed the double lines never seem to meet the keyway when I roll the engine backward and look from the bottom where the double lines meet...Its a notch off. Do I need to pull the belt and nudge the crank pulley a hair since when looking for tdc there is some room to work with either direction until it starts to change.....you guys follow me?
Perhaps I'm going about it too technical? Is there a definite way to check before I try to start the engine?
