Speedometer/odometer 120-130

I have a 1963 122s wagon an my speedometer/odometer is not working. I did notice that the cable was not inserted into the tranny after noticing a oil leak from that area I inserted the cable minus the insert which I'm uncertain of at this point. Any advice to fix this problem will greatly be appreciated thanks in advance.
