So I have a Canadian spec 244 GLT. This is the high compression 2.3L with forged rods/crank and k-jet as well as no catalytic and the 405 head with a k cam. I know these run a little lumpy anyway because of the compression but this car seems to have lots of trouble idling at first. When it warms up it is fine, but idles high. Haven't been able to turn down the idle screw but that isn't necessarily fixing the problem either. I made an attempt to check for vaccum leaks and it seems good. I used the WD40 method. The brother of the PO made a go of fixing it apparently and is a Porsche mechanic. He used to work at a shop near where I work now. He seems competent and the car has an entirely new distributor, new fuel filter new lines etc... New wires. Not helping I'm sure is the nearly full tank of old gas. The car is at about a half tank now after idling in the driveway for an hour.
The car has rust and the interior is faded and fried despite being structurally sound. Dash is dead. I'm thinking, it's a 136hp 137lb ft (from memory, other sources are different I'm sure it will be decried for me) na factory car. Why not give it one last hurrah and a brief lease on life? I don't know if I want to part it yet. It's only got 147,000km and it seems strong. I drove it 45 minutes to home. He brake failure light was cause for concern, but...
What causes the brake failure light to illuminate exactly? Car stopped fine and I have myself loooots of space and was careful. No issues?
So. Where do I start with k-jet? A fresh battery is a must as well. I'm going to clean the throttle body this weekend as well. What then? Set me on my way!
