Does anyone recommend traditional rustproofing? I live in the rust belt and just acquired a nice rust free 1989 240 wagon. The metal is galvanized and very nice but the salt on the roads is evil here. I know my parents have their car (Toyota) rustproofed every year or two. I think they spray some stuff in the doors, etc but they have to drill holes etc. to get it in? I'd like to hear some opinions. I'm wondering if the techniques or chemicals they use could be damaging to my car in the long run somehow?

I'm determined to keep this car rust free as long as I can before having to do any body work! BTW--the reason I am getting rid of my '88 sedan is because the driver's seat is falling through the floor from rust and my mechanic will not fix it anymore since he says it's "unsafe." This is not all due to my ownership as I think I am like the 6th or 7th owner of the car and the car was originally bought as a winter beater anyway. (Who knew I would fall in love with the winter beater and be inspired to buy another 240 as my main vehicle!)
