Hi fellow brickers!
I bought one of those nifty lower chassis braces from IPD.
It comes with three bolts and one nut. There are three nuts welded into the frame (where the control arm stay meets the belly) that I cleaned off and are ready to accept the bolts.
The last nut is supposed to fit onto a stud that protrudes from the frame. That stud is broken off, and it looks like prior owner's mechanic tried to dremel a groove into it.
My question is:
Can that stud be removed by drilling into it and using an easy out? It is mounted in a small "footing" welded to the in=side of the frame flange - it looks like two pieces but it may be swaged together.... anyone have first-hand knowledge?
Also, has anyone discovered a good work-around solution? Drilling through the footing does not look like a good option because the upper surface is not as deep, so there would be no good parallel surface to use a nut and bolt properly it seems...
So much for the 15-minute install. : )
Update: What about welding a new stud on?
