No Cold Air 200 1988

Hi,

Looking for input. I have had extensive work done on my 1988 240 wagon in the last year. New compressor, receiver drier, and evap unit.

It never worked properly. To add to this problem, the sliding thermostat lever has broken, so the only way for me to attempt to move it is from underneath the dash.

After spending a few hundred bucks at the mechanic last summer, his diagnosis was that since the compressor was running, and the hose running into the firewall was cold (and freon was full)... that there is some kind of "shutter" or "valve" (I can't remember exact words) that must be closed that is preventing the cooled air from getting in.

So.. now all I have coming in is hot air -- since I really can't effectively slide the temp/thermostat lever and can't get cool air blown in.

Am I screwed? Does this "shutter" that he speaks of really exist? Can I get my hands in there and pry this thing open?

This is killing me!!

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks,
Rich
