240 AC Recharging 200 1987

I have a 240 DL that I want to charge the AC on. I have done some research and found out that the fittings to recharge are that of the 134r refrigerant. So I do not believe it needs to be converted as it already has. That being said I could not locate a conversion tag saying it had been done. I want to recharge it and think that process should be pretty straight forward. However I followed what I believe is the low side hose inside the cab under the drivers side and found some putty looking material and some greenish looking dried on goo. Is this a sign of a leak? I'm not familiar with AC systems so I'm not sure if it would be okay to recharge the system with it like this. I can take a picture if needed to show but I do not have time to do so at the moment. If I could get some insight as to what this is that would be great. Also the compressor looks in good condition and the clutch engages just fine. Though the air blows totally warm when on. Thanks for any info.

Tim
