The brake booster on the 1990 745 has a torn diaphragm. It has vacuum sounds inside car (only) when applying brake, very stiff brake pedal.

Since the 1991 745 turbo SE is sitting unused for now, I decided to go and borrow her booster to put on the 1990. Based on some information from the FAQ (remove 4 nuts, pull master cylinder away) I went happily and cheerily outside to do this seemingly easy job. Only to be greeted by stark horror when I saw the severely limited access to the nuts under the dash. My efforts yielded only banged up knuckles, frustration and anger. Add to that the hot weather here in Florida, and my reluctance to bend around a lot to get under there, and you have a job not yet done. I am now in full avoidance mode regarding the job, especially since I will have to do it twice, once to remove donor, once to replace it in 1990.

Do any of you have any tips or techniques that will ease and hasten the removal of the brake booster, please?

I would like to get this done soon because my wife is complaining about the amount of pressure needed on the brake pedal and drops me hints nearly every day.

Please, please let the Volvo Spirits be kind to me and show me some method to make it easier, please.
