Our trusty '89 244 suddenly shut down while turning to the house. It was like we shut off the ignition.
So we pushed it home and parked out in the street.
So far this is what I have found out/replaced.
1) The car will start with starter fluid sprayed into throttle body and then stop when fluid is consumed.
2) The fuel pump relay checks OK, replaced with know good just in case, no change.
3) Crank position sensor replaced, no change.
4) nice spark at the spark plugs while cranking.
5) Pumps will run if terminal 30 and 87/2 are jumped at the pump relay connector.
6) At first turn of key engine will fire but will not keep running, will not fire again until some time has elapsed.
7) All grounds seem clean and tight.
8) We get a solid red led (unblinking) from the "Diagnostic Unit" when we connect the jumper to terminal 2 in order to read any codes pertaining to the FI system.
Right now I am stumped and I don't like the feeling…..
