Changed my engine/motor mounts today 700 1991

1991 740 non turbo , regina fuel system.
My procedure for changing the hydraulic engine/motor mounts.
SAFETY FIRST..use 2 appropriate jack stands at the front car must be on solid ground concrete etc!.The front wheels were only about an inch off the ground.
I used two capable hydraulic jacks ( not bottle type)..one underneath the oil pan with a piece of three quarter in plywood (use only plywood) , a circular cut out of about 4 inches so the jack was not on the oil pan bung. A piece of old towel between the wood and oil pan. The other where the tranny meets the bellhousing, just to distribute the force.
Disconnect negative cable from battery , a fire extiguisher close by..just in case and a cell phone on your person , if you are doing the job alone.
1..remove belly pan/engine splash shield..10mm/12mm sockets
2..remove rear cam positioned distributor cap and lay it out of the way..8mm spanner
(best to remove one of the dist. plug wires for centered upper 8mm bolt removal)
3..remove upper nut from left and right mounts 15mm
4..raise engine carefully with the jacks . I raised the one under the oil pan , then the one under the bellhousing.
Raise so the upper mount bracket clears the mounts upper bolt. The belted radiator fan blade will contact the shroud ..not a big deal
in my case. At this point it is easy to "rock "the engine .But be careful!
5..remove . on the drivers side (left side) the three 13mm nuts that hold the mount bracket to the frame. Long extensions with a flex were helpful here. Two will be easy from above , the other from beneath.
6..On the passenger side (right) remove the shrouds around the exhaust manifold for better clearance . Remove two upper 13 mm nuts , then from underneath the car and aft of the rack boot there will be a 12mm bolt.
NOTE: It is necessary to remove the brackets on which the mounts sit so as to remove the lower engine mount nut.15mm.
I used an electric impact to remove and install this nut. Also the mount can only fit one way due to a recess in which a tab on the mount fits in.
Use anti seize on all nuts and bolts. I took it a bit further as I believe the strap is for electrical continuity, and so I smeared the mating surfaces with a conductive, non corrosion paste.
7..Holding on the oil filler cap I slowly pushed the engine left to right a bit to extract the left mount and its bracket, to the rear. After replacing the mount I put the new mount and its bracket back into place , securing with the bracket nuts BUT not installing the upper bracket nut as yet. The engine at this point is still in the hoisted position and the upper mount bolt may not come through the upper bracket as yet.
8..remove the right side in a similar fashion , to the rear.
9 reinstall right bracket and mount. In my case the right side was not as high as the left and luckily a friend of mine came over and assisted. So much so that the upper mount bolt came through the upper bracket hole once it was positioned into place. Do not install the nut as yet.
10..Rock the engine at this point and maneuver the left mount ( it is a tad flexible) so that the upper bolt lines up with the bracket hole. Lower the jacks gently till the bolt protrudes through the upper bracket hole. At this point the engine should now be sitting on the mounts and the jacks can be removed.
11..Install both upper nuts.
12 reinstall exhaust shrouds and distributor cap
13..I replaced my tranny mount at this point also
14 check your work..start your engine and enjoy!
I have posted some pics in the technical , showing the mounts old and new , side by side so you can see the difference.
Hope this helps…regards
