Is it possible to run wires through an M47 shifter? 200

I know the wires for the overdrive button come up through the shifter on M46 equipped cars. My car has an M47 transmission, and the other day while I was poking around I realized the piece on the shifters with the shift pattern is actually a bit transparent. One day when I'm bored and have some time I might try running an LED up under there. If I take the shifter apart will I find the same opening for wires as I would in an M46 shifter? Any thoughts on anything else I might encounter when I try this?
