I have a 1972 142E with 280K and the engine has never been removed. I kind of like how the Djet performs but know the engine is getting tired. I have parts for a 92MM build with dished pistons, including a 75 B-20 block. I have a chromed 6 bolt crank and 93MM Flat tops for another option. I have a head off a boat motor also. It probably has a F head on the car. Can this head be milled to become a higher compression E head? I'm thinking a reasonable approach would be a rebuild of the 75 block with the smallest flat tops that would give me an on spec engine. With a rebuild of the current head on the engine with the possibility of upgrades to the head. I am aware this car is easy to megasquirt but do have interest in keeping it fairly stock. I do have all items now to convert to a close ratio T-5z trans. If i do this, I would forget about stock and would probably go carburated with a full big bore build.
Another consideration for me is my commute. It is very mountainous and the curent set up is at least 25% underpowered. I know there are lots of variables here but so are the possibilities. Just looking for input that I may be failing to consider. Whats your suggestions? Thanks in advance!
