Has anyone installed this kit on a 91 or a 92?

I have a 92 245 and I need to know if anyone else has had it happen where the hollow nut on the J shaped pipe (that you get with the kit) only threads on by about 3-4 threads on the AC evaporator pipe coming out of the firewall.

Doesn't seem right to me as the old J shaped R12 pipe threads on fully. The new pipe has about a 1/2 inch to go to thread on fully but it will not go on. Seems like it does snug up the o ring on that side but it doesn't seem right to me that it doesn't thread fully as the old pipe did.
