Aftermarket headlight concerns. 200 1989

Got some complete headlight assemblies from FCP. Only one just to try them out. Went with the 70 dollar Uro(?) plastic lens. Looked good enough, and the price was right. The old ones were so clouded and stained, that it was very hard to see at night. Anyways, the old ones were so rusty, the bolts broke off when we tried loosening them. We tore them off the rest of the way. Upon installing the "new" one, a piece broke and its a tad loose in the seat. Its not horrible, but what may be worse is a gap about 1/2 or 1/4 in thick along the bottom of the lamp assembly. Should i be concerned about the elements getting in there now? Should i try and plug that up with something? A strip of plexi or something to that effect?
Or whats the concensus? Should i just match it on the other side with the same brand, or take a loss and pay twice as much for the Volvo Cibie? I also see the e-code lamps, but at almost 400 bucks, it just seems there could be other things on the car to plug money into other than this, like maybe the clutch or front struts... Anyone have any thoughts?
