Differential swap question 200 1991

My son-in-law recently did a auto to M46 tranny swap that went very well. His '91 245 presently has the stock 3.73 rearend in it. We found a rearend from a '85 240 (with M46) that has a 3.31 rearend. Since the '85 speedo is cable driven and the '91 has an electronic speedo with a speed sensor in the diff., can we swap for the '91 for the '85, or is there something that can be done to make it all work? Thanks in advance.
