Hi, I have a 1988 740 turbo wagon, b230ft engine, m-46 manual trans, and the turbo I have is the early type mitsubizi TD04 with the integral CBV mounted vertically.
My situation:
Turbo always overboosts (to the point of computer cutting fuel) if I am being too aggressive on the accelerator so I finally got to messing with the wastegate. I applied 7psi, then 10psi, then around 20psi to the wastegate to check its functionality. I got up to 20 because the wastegate actuator rod would not move with less pressure. 20psi moved it but then it wouldn't retract, so I got no boost at all when I went for a test ride. I had to beat it back into place to get boost again.
My questions:
I would figure I need a new wastegate actuator. Can someone let me know were I can find such a part?
Or if anyone has had a similar problem they fixed somehow?
In the mean time I plan on dialing back the rod to allow for less boost, does this seem right?
Any help is very much appreciated: and I would have posted at turbobricks but I don't think they like me to much over there.
Thank you,
Benton
