1992 740 Shift Lock Button Sticks in cold weather? 700

I have an annoying issue with a 1992 740 (Regina, No turbo) -- the shift lock button sticks occasionally, preventing shifting out of park. The FAQs here do have quite a bit of info on this, I know:
http://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/TransmissionAuto.htm#TransmissionNotShiftingOutofPark

I'm not sure if a microswitch and / or relay is involved in shift-locking on this model (I don't think so). So I rather suspect it's the solenoid itself. I crawled around under the car last weekend. The wiring to the solenoid seems OK.

However, my distinct impression is that this problem on the car is much worse in cold weather -- and I haven't seen that mentioned anywhere. Does this help to diagnose the problem, anyone? How should I best troubleshoot?

Thanks,

Rob
