my vin number tag is falling off - wtf? 900

The vin tag near the windshield (driver's side) is supposed to have two fasteners. On my car one fastener is broken and one is missing. Until I noticed that, I've never worried about my title or anything like that. But I am worried that a cop might think the car is stolen. I'm not sure how this could have occurred. Anyway, can one buy new fasteners? What now?
