Ok, fellas. I finally cracked the code. On hot days at highway speed when I hit a bump on the highway my 93 240 with 285k would stumble and stall and start right back up. I originally figured it was the fuel pumps (and even did a parking lot swap on the main one). Last night I finally did some groping behind the engine and found the wires to the crank position sensor cracked and exposed.
Replacing the sensor was a bear as everyone knows. I first loosened the nut with a 10mm box wrench working from just behind the number four spark plug. Then I went at it from the top with a socket and 15mm of extension. To put the bolt back in, I used silicone to glue the bolt to the 10mm socket. Heading out to give her a go as it is pretty warm today.
I took some pics to give those who have never had the pleasure of doing this job. The old wire was frayed all over and the copper wire was exposed. Will send to those that want them. Best! Rob
