wiring harness replacement 200

'83 244. My car broke down on the interstate at 5:30 am,100 miles away from home,on way to work. While waiting on a ride, i narrowed the problem to no spark at the coil. The mechanic, who was recommended by a co worker, agreed a short in coil. He said it was due to old corroded wiring including the harness. He removed the wiring harness and spliced the wires together and ran new wiring. Do I need to get another wiring harness, do i need a harness? is this dangerous?
