HIGH IDLE and couldn't start easily..running rich?? HELP 86 240 200 1986

Can't figure it out..It's a 1986 240 with only 91,000...did a total tune up. Car 's idle is high and after a half hour of driving, I turned it off and when I went to restart right away..red lights came on dash and it wasn't cranking over, so I kept my foot all the way down on the gas held it there and it finally caught on and started....my thoughts....is it 2 separate problems?? the idle control valve for the high idle?? ans air mass sensor for running that way?? what can we check?thanks for any ideas..lynn
