Hi. I've got an early-'93 car with a broken odometer. I need suggestions (beyond replacing the gears). Here's the background:
Recently, on my late-'93 car whose odometer stopped, I replaced the combination gears (both the tiny 25-tooth and the big gear) with quality replacements (the white plastic) from 'OdometerGear". It worked fine. By the way, this speedometer head had (as I recall) only one big capacitor on the side.
Now, my other car, an early-'93, developed a stopped odometer, too. So I went ahead and did the same replacement -- it clearly had two teeth broken off the small 25-tooth gear -- and yet it still doesn't work. This speedometer head has two big capacitors on the side, something that I noticed because it surprised me (after seeing the first one).
[Just in case it's relevent here, I've designated early vs late '93, because beyond the VINs and the different capacitor number, the early one has a traditional positive battery cable and the late one has the unique cable with 4 fuses on the clamp -- I've found more than once that the two cars are somewhat different in several ways.]
Anyway, I need some suggestions on how to proceed from this point. It might still be mechanical, though, rather than electronic: the trip odometer indicates the "difficult" transition to the next mile -- when I had the head out, I didn't rotate anything (for fear of jamming it further). Should I have turned the little manual knob?
In advance, thank you for any suggestions.
