So here is my tale of woe. I have a 93 245 with 216K on the clock and have had one helluva summer getting it to run like it used to. I first experienced trouble a couple of months ago when after exiting the highway suddenly I had no power whatsoever. I could limp along and eventually was able to get home. I didn't think it was the AMM as I've experienced that before. The fuel pump however was screaming and sounded like gears gnashing. I went home and replaced it with an Airtech pump from Auto Zone and got somewhat better results, but still not what I was used to. I then replaced the fuel filter and the in tank pump (from IPD) and while the pump was still noisy, it was a different kind of noisy from before and I racked it up to being a will fit part. The car seemed to run well for while.
Fast forward to a few weeks later and I decided to check the FPR after experiencing poor idle quality and extended start times and sure enough it was leaking fuel. I initially replaced it with a Borg Warner piece to no avail, as the vehicle would not rev over 4K and acceleration was less than the pace these cars are known for. However once I replaced it with the proper Bosch piece from FCP things seemed much better. I took he vehicle out and flogged it hard and thought I had the problem licked.
That is until this morning when once again the engine will only momentarily rev beyond 3500 and then bog down and not accelerate. I can if I try get her going at highway speed but once kicked into passing gear the revs drop until I let off the gas and the car upshifts. It was cooler here today than of late, high 40's; as opposed to 60-70's.
After reading the faq's I'm leaning toward the AMM or the knock sensor. I just don't know where to go from here, though I will be picking up a fuel pressure gauge to check that out today. I don't want to rule out a defective main pump.
But yeah, right now I'm really stumped.
HELP!
