Fuel pump Regina..hope I did the right thing 700 1991

In 2004 I replaced the only in tank fuel pump ,Regina system. A week ago the car quit on me and luckily I was able to coast to a safe area . My initial suspicion was the fuel pump after a few tests and also listening for the familiar initial whine which I did not hear.I had the car towed home(AAA) and tested the system further. The power to the pump was fine , but upon testing the pump itself for a resistance It showed an open circuit. I removed the pump and immediately noted that one of the two wires soldered to the pumps terminal had come off. I concluded it must have been from the vibration all these years as I did not see the rubber sleeve that normally accompanies this pump. For some reason I must have left it off ( I believe the aftermarket pump was fatter and so with the sleeve could not fit in place) I resolderred the terminal and installed the pump and all is well again. Now here is the thing. THis pump has 69K miles on it. Should I have just replaced it with a new one.How long do these pump last? I have a spare one on hand. My thinking is that the job itself is quite straight forward , not that difficult at all. Thoughts?
