I am going to need a set of tires soon. My friend, who works on Volvos, suggested I might want to consider switching from my current original 14" wheels to 15" wheels. Two reasons: 1) the industry seems to be moving away from 14" wheels, so there are fewer options in that size, 2) slight improvement in traction. Not sure how the slight height increase will affect the ride.
I can get a set of aluminum 15" wheels for around $100.
My current tires are 185/70R14. I really don't know anything about tires. Can you recommend a tire size that is a little wider in a 15" that will work well for my 240 sedan?
I only drive this car maybe 4000 miles/year, mix of inner city errands and occasional trips. I'd like a little more traction, particularly in rain and snow, in an all-season radial.
My buddy likes Kumo tires- feels they are good tires, reasonably priced, says they have a slightly softer sidewall to give a better ride. But he buys them online and does all his own service. I generally like to buy my tires at a local shop so I can get easy warranty service when need be, the closest one is Firestone, but I'm not convinced their tires are a good value.
Comments?
Thanks,
