I am at my wits ends with this problem, so any help you can give me would be appreciated. Here is the summary.
For about the past month the car has just stopped starting, and I have had to jump the car off to get it going again. The car then ran for another week or two and did the same thing. Then the car ran for about two days, and would not start again, but this time I could not jump start the car. The starter would click and lights on the dash would flash and then there was not power at all. The light would not even turn on, but when I jumped the car the lights and the alarm would go off the first time I tried to start it. I removed the alarm horn fuse, so that I didn't have to listen to it anymore.
I took the battery to be tested and they said it had 100% charge and the battery was good, I from past experience that tells me that the starter is the problem. I removed the starter and took it to be tested, and it failed the test, because it would not move outward when it was powered up. I went to pull-a-part and got a used starter, because I did not want to spend $180 at Auto Zone or $305 for a Bosch new/refurbished one. I had the pull-a-part one tested and it passed. I installed it, and the car still will not start. I can hear the starter clicking and engaging, but engine does not crank. This does it several times, which did not happen before, and then the battery pretty much dies. I can let it set for a bit, and the click will happen again, but it does not start.
I have checked the timing belt and it has not broken or locked up. The car runs great when it is running. The engine runs smoothly, and I really do not have any other issues, other that a check engine light for the Catalytic converter, which is another question at a later date.
I have read that the PNP switch commonly goes bad on these cars, but if that were the case, then it would not click to start with. I have checked all the connections, but I just can't figure it out. Does the alarm fuse need to be in to start the car. I would not think disabling the alarm would do this, but I will try that tomnorrow.
Please help ASAP.
