Grinding noise from rear end 700 1989

1989 780 turbo

Car started making grinding noise from rear end. It started suddenly, intermittent at first, but after a short amount of time pretty much constant at all speeds. Rear end is sagging-Nivomat shocks must need replacing.
Could this be related to blown shocks? U-joints? Center bearing? Wheel bearing?
