Heater Core - Which Hose Is the Input? 900 1993

I'm interested to know, for the purpose of reverse flushing my heater core on my 1993 940 wagon, which of the heater core hoses is the input and which is the output (normally), so that I may reverse this configuration during the reverse flush.

So my basic question is: is the upper or lower hose the normal input for the heater core?
Thanks in advance to this "collective Volvo hive" for the reply; I'm hoping to get some real heat in my 940 before the snow flies.
