It's not often I run into stupidly-designed things on these 240's, but this inner-tie-rod crap qualifies...
Round thread-end, peened projection to keep it from turning, no way (that I can see) to safely grab the steering rack... Been whackin' away with a chisel for awhile on that little projection; doesn't feel good to be doing that to the rack. I don't remember anything particularly difficult when I put new inners on the '83. It's not just all the ever-increasing computerized things that make the newer models harder to work on, I guess...
The new tie rod actually has flat spots; is there any reason I couldn't put a big washer between there and bend it over the flat spot? -- if I ever get the old ones off.... it doesn't help that my vise-grips have been misplaced...
