Carbed 1800E Head retorque x times x lbs.

Hello Bricksters,

I need a little head advise.

I replaced the head gasket on a 1971 1800E.
Per the manual the first torque is at 58
than run for 10 minutes and retorque to 65lbs.

That's all. Done!

But, an "Old skool" told me to retorque a 3rd time after about a week.

Does anyone have any experience with needing to retorque B20 heads multiple times?

If I decide to do it a third time or forth. Do I loosen and then re-tighten to 68 or just confirm with the torque wrench the torque is still 68, whether it needs a little push to click or not?

Should I increase the final torque to ... say 72 just to keep tightening?

I'm a little paranoid because I have heard of heads not getting re-torqued and blowing a head gasket. I do not want to endanger my hard work.

To torque or not to torque. And the sequence to follow.

Thanks,

Rich
