How to find oil leak S90-V90 1998

Hi all,
My 98 V90 had a major oil leak two days ago. I pulled over and had the car towed back home. To find where it is, I jacked up the car. Took off the bottom cover. Saw oil higher up, past the level of the oil filter. Took off the timing cover which was oily. Some oil behind the cover, mostly the lower half. Still can't seem to find the leak. Noticed some oil on top of the engine block that may have come out of the top portion of the timing cover.
I checked the PCV value. It seems fine. I tested by blowing thru it, both ways. Also, the other belt (the serpentine belt which involves the AC) was totally clean.
Note: about two weeks ago, my dipstick broke at the red plastic handle. I put on a new o-ring and glued it back together. The o-ring fits very snugly into the oil dipstick tube.
I wonder if I should just put 4 quarts back in and then start the engine. Would this be safe and would this help me find out where the leak is?
Thanks, Rivdog
