So, new car. Both engine mounts had failed, and I finally got them replaced. I ordered transmission mount too, because I figured I might need it. Went under and while it hadn't failed yet, about one quarter of the rubber was separating from the metal. So I decided to replace it.
Jacked up the pan slightly, removed cross member bolts. Couldn't get enough leverage to remove the mount nut from the crossmember, so I unbolted the bracket on the other side, letting me take crossmember, mount, and bracket off the car. Installed the mount finger tight. Went back under to put it in. Now, here's where my problem starts: Started with putting the two bolts in the transmission pan, then one on the passenger side of the cross member, all just in far enough to let it hang. Over at drivers side, and the member won't go up, appears to be about 2" low. The bracket in the middle is what is keeping it from coming up. Could the transmission pan have dropped an inch or two given: both motor mounts failed, and a failing transmission mount, or while I was working on installing the mount, the jack sank an inch or two (not sure exactly how far I'd need to raise it to get it to meet up)? I don't just want to raise the pan and "see what happens" as that spells trouble.
I am pretty sure my assembly is correct. Cross member, mount side that is flush, mount side with protrusions that keep the mount from spinning (can't think of the word for them), bracket with the lower side of the bracket bending toward the front of the car same as in this picture .
So, any suggestions on how to get this installed?
