Gouged camshaft(?) during front cam seal replacement. 700 1992

So, I managed to seriously gouge my camshaft, or whatever surface the front cam seal rides on.

There is a divot that's roughly triangle shaped with smooth edges, and it's about 1/32 of an inch deep. Dont ask how I put it there, please.

Anyway, what did I gouge? What does the seal ride on? The camshaft? It can't be polished out because it's so deep, and hopefully it won't destroy the new seal.

If the seal is destroyed by this gouge mark, what am I going to have to replace? The camshaft?
