I noticed my Light Out Warning Lamp coming on when I pressed the brakes. With help of enlisted spousal unit, I determined the Third/High/Middle brake light was not working. Nervously ripped cover off lamp housing (thankfully it did not crack), replaced 1156 lamp. Still no light. Upon inspection, discovered the original lamp was good.
I have not been able, due to lack of assistance at the moment, to troubleshoot further. However, having owned several 245's and a 765T I suspect the cabling at the tailgate hinge. If that is the case, repair is one of two methods:
Repair or replace harness.
Repair is certainly cheaper. I have wire, heat-shrink, soldering equipment and skills. Both methods probably take about the same amount of time (not counting time to order and p/u parts). By repairing, I'd run the risk of the rear wiper or license pate lamps dying next week. Replacement would ensure all new wiring and should last much longer than I expect to own the car.
What say ye experts?
Thanks for any input.
