Troubleshooting Heater Control Valve 200

Hi guys,

I've been getting a lot of help on a "no heat" situation in a 1986, 240. It seems that I have a coolant flow problem that is causing this.

Anyway, Would it be possible to disconnect the 2 heater hoses from the heater control valve......couple them together with a ball valve in between them and let that replace the heater control vavle?

That way I could turn the valve "on" to send coolant through the heater core and then shut it "off" for summer driving.

The reason I'd like to do this is because #1 it would be a cheap and relatively easy fix and #2 it should tell me if the problem is in the heater control valve or a plugged heater core.

I guess my question is: Will this work, or am I missing something?

Thanks
