240 Electrical Problem 200

After a string of 8 Volvos, 240-V70R, we sold our last one in February. I had a company car (wasn't allowed to have an import) and we got an Odyssey van as a kid hauler - three kids and no third row seat in new V70s:(.

Having no Volvos just happened - and it didn't feel good.

My neighbor 4 houses street had a really nice looking 93 245 wagon that that was sitting around for a long time - evidenced by the sinking tires into the asphalt and lichen growing on the roof. I finally asked her to just sell me the car and she did; $500. I put in 6 gallons of fresh gas and a battery and it fired right up. I took it home and cleaned her (now named Betty White - she's white and weeks away from being an antique). She beads water and really runs great.
Just before the neighbor stopped driving, she replaced the battery, rotors, exhaust, steering rack, two new sets of tires (studded winter and summer). Also, according to the window sticker, still in glove box, it has locking differential- a great feature for my New England winters.

If you can't tell, I'm in love with Betty White.

But here's the downside -aside from the driving lights - nothing electrical works.

Turning on the blower, works - but on high makes the door chime.

Dome light - doesn't work - door chime.

Glove box light - doesn't work - door chime.

Defroster - doesn't work - switch doesn't light.

AC - doesn't work - switch doesn't light.

Radio - needs code reset every time I turn the car off and doesn't work.

Central lock - doesn't work - but the fuse is shot - I just need to get to the FCP store and buy some fuses.

ABS - doeesn't work - dash light on - read it could be a ground.

Also, the tailgate doesn't seem to latch right away. Will latch eventually. I'm really scratching me head on this one!

I'm hoping most of these issues are connected. From reading other posts, it sounds like it may be a ground. I'm hoping it isn't a harness issue.

Here's what I've done so far:

Sanded and greased (dielectric) ground on firewall.

Inspected the ground next to the battery - looked brand new - didn't touch, but I'm thinking I should touch it up anyway.

I sanded the fuse connections with 600 grit. All fuses looked fine except the central looking fuse.

Nothing I've done has a made a difference.

I'm pretty handy but these electrical gremlins never really seem to make sense to me. It seems like the door chime sounding when I turn on other switches has be a clue.

Any advice would be warmly welcomed. Specifics on where to find the other grounds would be especially valuable.

It feels great to be reading the brickboard again!
