No overdrive (but overdrive dash light is not on either) 200 1989

1989 244 DL. Having some issues with the overdrive. About 8 or 9 months ago, the overdrive dash light came on (and the overdrive stopped working). After reading some posts here (always very helpful information), I checked the overdrive relay and say there was a crack. I resoldered the relay and everything went back to normal. Then, a few weeks ago, the overdrive light came on again (and the overdrive went out). I checked the relay again and sure enough there was a new crack in a different place on the relay. So I resoldered it again and everything was working again for a day or two. But then the overdrive fuse started blowing randomly. Over the course of a week or so, I had to replace the overdrive fuse about 3 times. I put in another fuse and now the fuse has stopped blowing, but the overdrive is not working (I can tell when I try and drive at highway speeds). The strange thing is that the overdrive dash light did not come on.
So basically the current situation is that I have no overdrive, but the dash light has not come on (and the fuses are not blowing anymore). Since I have had problems with the relay twice now in about a year, I am wondering whether the relay just may be bad and should be replaced. But if it is a bad relay, wouldn't the dash light come on? Thanks for all the help.

Doug
